Mactan-Cebu Airport to Cebu City: Every Option and Fare

Ren Calago0

Mactan-Cebu International Airport sits on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City, not in Cebu City itself. To reach downtown, IT Park or the Ayala area, you cross one of the bridges to the mainland, a trip of about 15 kilometres that takes around 30 minutes with light traffic and 60 to 90 minutes at evening rush hour.

You have four real choices: the MyBus airport bus, a metered taxi, a Grab ride, or a pre-booked transfer. Jeepneys exist but don't start at the terminals. Below is how each one works, what it costs after the September 2026 fare increase, where to find it at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and which one suits your arrival time and luggage.

Quick answer: for most first-time visitors with bags, a white metered taxi or Grab is the easiest choice. If you travel light and land in the daytime, MyBus is the cheapest comfortable option by far.

Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?

Terminal 2, the building with the curved wooden roof, handles international flights. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights. The two aren't connected airside, so if you're connecting from an international flight to a domestic one on separate tickets, you'll need to collect your bags, move to the other terminal and check in again. Give yourself at least three hours for that.

Both terminals have a taxi queue and a ride-hailing pickup area. The MyBus airport routes start from Terminal 1.

Every option from the airport to Cebu City

Cheapest comfortable ride

MyBus

Air-conditioned buses from Terminal 1 to SM City Cebu, and a second route that continues through Cebu Business Park and Ayala Center to IT Park. Pay the conductor on board.

Best value door to door

White metered taxi

Regular city taxis with the lower flag-down. There's a separate line for them at the taxi area. Make sure the meter is on before you leave the kerb.

Most available

Yellow airport taxi

Airport-accredited taxis that pick up only at the terminals. They're usually waiting even late at night, but cost more per kilometre.

Fixed fare in advance

Grab

Book in the app and meet the driver at the marked pickup zone. You see the fare before you confirm, but prices climb at peak hours and when it rains.

MyBus routes and hours

The Airport to SM City Cebu bus has run from about 7:30 a.m. to 9:40 p.m., leaving roughly every 20 to 30 minutes. The Airport to IT Park bus runs about hourly from around 7 a.m., stopping at SM City Cebu, Cebu Business Park and Ayala Center before ending at IT Park. Heading back, buses leave SM City Cebu from about 6 a.m. and IT Park from about 6:40 a.m., with the last trips in the evening.

Check the sign on the front before you board. A bus marked for SM City Cebu doesn't go on to Ayala or IT Park, which are a few kilometres further. MyBus doesn't run late at night, so it's no help for a midnight landing.

Taxis: white or yellow

At the taxi area, staff sort passengers into a white taxi line and a yellow taxi line and note the plate number of your car. White taxis cost less, but the line can be longer at busy times. Yellow taxis are easier to find late at night and after big arrival waves. Neither charges for luggage, and there's no night surcharge on the meter.

Some drivers will try to quote a flat price instead of using the meter. Say no politely and ask for the meter, or go back to the taxi staff for another car. Ignore anyone in the arrivals hall offering a "van transfer" unless you booked it yourself.

Grab and other ride-hailing

Grab has marked pickup points at both terminals. It's handy if you don't want to haggle or explain directions, and you can pay by card or e-wallet in the app. You'll need mobile data to book, so sort out a local SIM or eSIM before you walk out.

Jeepneys

No jeepney leaves from the terminals. You'd need a short ride out of the airport to the main road, then one or two jeepneys across the bridge, paying a few tens of pesos in total. It's the cheapest way to go, but it isn't practical with a suitcase or on your first trip.

Fares at a glance

New public transport fares took effect nationwide on 28 September 2026. The meter rates below are the current official ones. The trip totals are rough guides, since traffic and the route across the bridges make a big difference.

Which option suits you

  • Daytime arrival, light bag, staying near SM, Ayala or IT Park: MyBus.
  • Arriving with a suitcase or two: a white taxi, or Grab if the taxi line is long.
  • Landing late at night: a yellow taxi or Grab. MyBus will have stopped, and white taxis are scarcer after midnight.
  • Family or group with lots of luggage: a pre-booked van, or a six-seater on Grab.
  • Staying on Mactan: a short taxi or Grab ride. The resorts in Maribago and Punta Engaño are about 10 to 20 minutes away. Our guide to things to do in Mactan covers what's nearby.

Tips for a smoother ride

Before you leave the terminal

  • Carry small billsHave a few hundred pesos in small notes for the bus or taxi. Drivers often can't change large bills.
  • Avoid rush hour if you canTraffic over the bridges is worst from about 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., when the ride can take twice as long.
  • Save your hotel's pinHave the address and map pin ready on your phone. It saves time and avoids detours.
  • Ask about the bridgeThere are three ways across: the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge and, for the south of the city, the CCLEX expressway from Cordova. Your driver will know which is moving best.
  • Sort your SIM firstIf you plan to use Grab, get a local SIM or eSIM before you leave arrivals. Our Philippines arrival basics guide covers SIMs, cash and the eTravel form.

Once you're in the city, getting around is easier than the airport run suggests. The Cebu BRT connects IT Park, Ayala, Fuente and the South Road Properties, and taxis are plentiful in the centre.
