Lapu-Lapu Fiesta 2026: Schedule of Events and Activities

Ren Calago0

Lapu-Lapu City celebrates its patroness, Nuestra Señora de Regla, every November, and 2026 marks the 291st feast. The main fiesta days are 20 and 21 November, but the celebration runs for most of the month, starting with a dawn walk on 9 November, a seaborne procession across the waters off Mactan on 12 November, and the Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu street-dance showdown on 15 November.

Below is the 2026 schedule of events as announced, what each activity is like, and practical tips for joining the crowds, whether you're a devotee or a visitor staying on Mactan for a few days.

This year's theme is "Mary, Our Lady of the Rule, Listens and Cares for Her Children in this Synodal Journey." Some times and venues are still to be confirmed by the city and the shrine, so this page will be updated as the final programme comes out.

Who is Nuestra Señora de Regla?

Nuestra Señora de Regla, Our Lady of the Rule, is the patroness of Lapu-Lapu City, and her image is kept at the National Shrine in Poblacion, the old town centre that was once called Opon. November is the city's biggest month of the year, and the area around the shrine gets busy with devotees, visitors and vendors.

The religious events and the city's own festival activities run side by side. The novena, processions and Masses belong to the shrine and the parish. The pageants, the street-dance competition and the concert belong to the city government.

The main events, day by day

Walk with Mary (9 November)

The opening procession carries the image on foot from Lapu-Lapu City Hall to the National Shrine. In 2024 it started at 4 a.m., so plan on an early alarm if you want to join.

Seaborne procession (12 November)

This is the most striking event of the fiesta. The day starts with a 5 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish in Marigondon, followed by a motorcade to Marigondon Port. At around 7 a.m., the image is sent off on a Metro Ferry vessel, with smaller boats following along the Mactan coast. It arrives at Muelle Osmeña in Poblacion for the first novena Mass at 10 a.m., led by Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy.

The best views are from the shoreline near Muelle Osmeña as the boats come in. If you plan to join on a pump boat, the Philippine Coast Guard has asked boat owners to register with the City Agriculture and Fisheries Office or the City Tourism Office and to stick to passenger limits. Everyone on board should wear a life jacket.

Novena Masses (12–20 November)

Nine days of novena Masses follow the procession at the shrine. Crowds grow as the fiesta days get closer.

Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu (15 November)

Garbo is the city's festival showcase, a ritual dance and street-dance competition in which barangay contingents perform in honour of the city and its patroness. Expect costumes, drum lines and big crowds. The venue for 2026 hadn't been announced at the time of writing, so check the city's pages before you go.

Pageants and the Kaabag Concert (19–22 November)

The city's pageant nights fill the evenings around the feast: the coronation of Prince and Princess Lapu-Lapu and Mrs. Lapu-Lapu on 19 November, Binibining Lapu-Lapu on 20 November, and Dyosa ng Lapu-Lapu on 22 November. The Kaabag Concert takes place on 21 November, fiesta day itself.

Solemn procession and fiesta Mass (20–21 November)

In 2024, the solemn foot procession started at 4 p.m. on the fiesta eve and the Pontifical Mass at 10 a.m. on fiesta day, both at the National Shrine. Expect a similar pattern in 2026, but check the shrine's final schedule for exact times.

Getting to the shrine and Muelle Osmeña

The National Shrine and Muelle Osmeña are both in Poblacion, on the side of Mactan facing Mandaue. From Cebu City, take a taxi or Grab across either the Marcelo Fernan Bridge or the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge, or ride a jeepney to Lapu-Lapu and walk the final blocks. From the resorts on the east side of the island, allow extra time on procession days, since the roads into Poblacion are narrow and traffic builds quickly.

If you only have one day for the fiesta, 12 November is the one to pick. You can watch the boats arrive at Muelle Osmeña in the morning, hear the first novena Mass, and still have the afternoon free for the rest of Mactan.

Tips for visitors

  • Get around early. Streets near the shrine and Muelle Osmeña get crowded during processions, and some may close. Walk the last stretch rather than trying to drive in.
  • Mind your things. Big crowds attract pickpockets. Carry a small bag in front and keep your phone in a front pocket.
  • Dress for church. Cover shoulders and knees for Masses at the shrine, and bring water and a small towel for the processions.
  • Follow the parish's entry and exit points. The shrine sets marked paths on the busiest days, and security staff can help if you get lost.
  • Book rooms early. The fiesta weekend falls close to the start of the holiday season, so reserve your stay ahead.

Make a trip of it

The fiesta is a good excuse to stay on Mactan for a few days. Between events, you can see the Lapu-Lapu monument at the Mactan Shrine, eat sutukil by the water, or visit the guitar workshops in Maribago. Our guide to things to do in Mactan covers all of these, plus Olango Island, where migratory bird season is in full swing in November.

If you want quieter mornings, the mangroves and sandbar at the island's southern tip are close by. Our guide to Cordova, Cebu's most-visited town has the details. And if the Lapu-Lapu fiesta leaves you wanting more, Cebu's biggest celebration is only two months away: start planning with our Sinulog first-timer's guide.
